I’ve never been a car enthusiast…

Disclaimer: I’ve never been a car enthusiast; in fact, cars weren’t really my thing, except for Formula 1. However, when the buzz around electric vehicles (EVs) started growing, I realised they are the future for cutting carbon emissions. Back in 2017, the EV market was limited, but it was Tesla that caught my eye, transforming my perception of cars into something akin to an iPad on wheels—an Apple in the automotive world.

My first encounter with a Tesla Model X during a test drive in 2017 marked the beginning of an unexpected love affair. The experience was so captivating that it found a permanent spot on my vision board. Soon after, I became infatuated with the “Spot the Tesla” game, passionately sharing my enthusiasm with friends. In 2019, I made my dream a reality and acquired my first Model 3 when they hit the UK.

To my surprise, the Model 3 became like a Cinderella shoe for me—easy and incredibly comfortable to drive. Despite initial reservations about range limitations, I’ve explored the Lakes and ventured to the North, covering more ground than I ever thought possible. The economic benefits are striking, with a mere £9 for a full home charge at night and £15 for a journey to Manchester using superchargers.

Beyond its minimalistic design and fun driving experience, the Model 3 offers practical features that resonates with me. The comfort of the ride, the seamless scheduling of charging, the luxury of heating the seats and updating software remotely from my kitchen. I even use it as an alternative safe storage for parcel deliveries.

Acknowledging the premium price tag of Tesla vehicles, I weighed the running and maintenance costs alongside the efficiency of the supercharger network. Factoring in these elements, I find it hard to envision switching to any other EV brand in the near future.
Currently on my second Model 3 after my first lease ended, my biggest car-related expense is now cleaning products, as I’ve taken on the role of a detailer, much to the amusement of my neighbours.

While the first MOT brought nervous anticipation, it turned out to be a breeze, taking only 40 minutes and resulting in a clean bill of health for my beloved Tesla—affectionately named “The Beast” through the app.

Despite test-driving other EVs for comparison, none have made me regret or contemplate replacing my Tesla. I proudly declare myself a Tesla enthusiast at heart, though please don’t mistake me for an Elon Musk fangirl. Still, my obsession has indirectly contributed to seven Tesla purchases within my circle through friends and family referrals—I might as well be on their payroll!
